Mount Olive, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the University of Mount Olive Trojans in a 105-80 final score on Tuesday evening.

Southern Wesleyan shot 58.6% from the field and went 69.2% at the free throw line in thee loss to the Trojans.  The Warriors were led by DJ Dobson with 30 points scored.  Dobson was followed by Jalen Lowery with 20 points and Jeremy Wert with 10.  Lowery went on to lead the team with five assists.

The Warriors had 25 rebounds in the loss.  Jeremy Wert led the team with eight rebounds.  Jalen Lowery led the team with three steals and three Warriors posted a block.

How It Happened

The University of Mount Olive attacked first on a jump shot and three point shot by Cameron Robinson to take a 5-0 lead over Southern Wesleyan.  Southern Wesleyan got on the board on back-to-back layups by DJ Dobson to put Warriors down 4-7 to the Trojans.  A layup by Jalen Lowery allowed the Warriors to come within one point of the Trojans with a little over sixteen minutes left to play.  Mount Olive pushed their lead to 15-8 on back-to-back three point jump shots by Cameron Robinson and Jamaal Matin.  A layup by Jeremy Wert put the Warriors down five points to the Trojans and make the score 10-15.  Southern Wesleyan kept the game close on a layup by Zalan Richards to make the score 13-21.  A three point jump shot by Jacob Smith allowed the Warriors to come within six points of the Trojans.  Mount Olive pushed ahead to take a 13 point lead, but Southern Wesleyan countered with a jump shot by DJ Dobson to bring the Warriors to 18-29 behind the Trojans.  With just over five minutes left in the first half, Tyler Thomas made a layup to give Mount Olive a 42-24 point advantage.  Shots by Jeremy Wert and Bryson Williams allowed the Warriors to come to 30-49 behind the Trojans.  Back-to-back layups by Jalan Lowery allowed the Warriors to come within 17 points of Mount Olive and make the score 34-51.  A breakaway dunk by Don Pigford allowed Mount Olive to take a 56-36 point lead.  Mount Olive led 60-38 at the half.

Mount Olive kicked off the second half with a layup by Dominique Tham, but the Warriors countered with a jump shot by Kylie Blackett to bring the score to 62-40.  Back-to-back shots by Jalen Lowery put the Warriors down 45-64 to the Trojans.  Mount Olive lengthen the distance to 23 points on shots by Cameron Robinson, Dominique Tham and Don Pigford.  With just over fifteen minutes remaining in the second half, Gavin Sears made a layup to allow the Warriors to cut the Trojans advantage to 49-70.  Mount Olive pulled away to a 31 point lead on a layup by Armond Griebe.  Southern Wesleyan fought back with shots by DJ Dobson and Jalen Lowery to put the Warriors down 55-84 with less than ten minutes to play.  Kylie Blackett sunk a three point jump shot to put the Warriors down twenty-nine points and make the score 60-89.  Mount Olive pushed ahead, but Southern Wesleyan would not let the Trojans dampen them as DJ Dobson and Jeremy Wert made shots to make the score 93-68.  Gavin Sears made a dunk to end the game with the Warriors falling 105-80.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will remain away on January 27 as the take on the Limestone Saints at 7:30 p.m.  They will then return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on January 31 as they take on the Erskine College Flying Fleet at 7:30 p.m.
