Tigerville, SC – Southern Wesleyan won their first Conference Carolinas game of the season against the North Greenville Crusaders in an 84-73 final on Wednesday evening.
Four Warriors scored double digits in the victory over the Crusaders. DJ Dobson led the team with 25 points. He was followed by Javon Hunter with 18, Justice McCullough with 15 and Jalen Lowery with 14. The Warriors shot 29-57 from the field and were 23-34 at the free throw line. Hunter and Lowery went on to lead the team with four assists each.
Justice McCullough delivered a double-double after posting 18 rebounds alongside of his 15 points. DJ Dobson delivered two of the Warriors three blocks, with McCullough boasting the other block. Javon Hunter and Dobson had two steals each.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan attacked first in the conference game on a three point shot by Jalen Lowery to take a 3-0 lead over North Greenville. However, the Crusaders countered with a layup to come to 3-2 behind the Warriors. Justice McCullough charged on with a jump shot to give Southern Wesleyan a 5-2 point lead. North Greenville tied the game 5-5 on a three point shot by DJ Brooks. The Crusaders pulled ahead, but a layup by DJ Dobson allowed the Warriors to keep the game tied 9-9. The tie was short-lived as shots by Daniel Burchette and Kovi Tate gave the Crusaders a 13-9 point advantage. A jump shot by Kylie Blackett kept the Warriors within four points of the Crusaders and made the score 17-13. Shots by DJ Dobson propelled the Warriors to 19-18 lead over North Greenville with less than 10 minutes left in the first half. Javon Hunter sunk jump shots to give the Warriors a 26-20 point lead over the Crusaders. Southern Wesleyan surged ahead with shots by Zalan Richards and Jalen Lowery to give them a 34-22 point lead with just over five minutes left in the first half. A dunk by Jeremy Wert and layup by Javon Hunter allowed Southern Wesleyan to push their lead to 40-23. North Greenville threatened, but shots by Justice McCullough and Javon Hunter allowed the Warriors to take a 48-30 point lead at half time.
Southern Wesleyan charged out in the second half with a layup by DJ Dobson to give the Warriors a 50-30 lead. North Greenville countered with shots by DJ Brooks to come to 37-50 behind Southern Wesleyan. The Warriors kept pushing on with a layup by Jalen Lowery and jump shot by DJ Dobson. Southern Wesleyan took a 20 point lead over North Greenville on layups by Justice McCullough and Lowery to make the score 62-42. Jump shots by Matt Moore and Roderick Howell allowed North Greenville to cut Southern Wesleyan's lead to 62-47. A free throw shot by Dobson allowed the Warriors to take their lead to 65-52. Kylie Blackett made a layup to take their lead to 13 points point lead. Free throws and a layup by DJ Dobson allowed Southern Wesleyan to push their lead to 76-61. The Warriors pushed their lead to 84-73 on a free throw by Javon Hunter to win the game.
Southern Wesleyan will return home on January 13 to take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 4 p.m. They will remain at home to take on the Barton Bulldogs on January 15 and Belmont Abbey Crusaders on January 20.
