Central, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan collected their first win of the season in a match-up against the Columbia International Rams with a 70-58 final on Saturday evening.
Justice McCullough led the team with a double-double in the win against the Rams. McCullough scored 24 points and had 18 rebounds. He was followed by Jalen Lowery with 17 points and Zalan Richards with 15 rebounds. Southern Wesleyan went 24-61 in field goals in the win and were 19-28 at the free throw line. Javon Hunter led the Warriors with six assists in the win. Four Warriors posted steals and Jeremy Wert led the team with two blocks.

"We had a good overall performance tonight. We managed to win several statistical categories. Columbia International gave us fits with the five guard lineup, but the gus were able to adjust to their quicknesss with hard closeouts on the ball. I'm ver proud of the overall effort."
How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan struck first in the game against Columbia International with a jump shot from Jalen Lowery. However, the Rams quickly took the lead with a three-point shot by Juraj Rovis. The Rams held the lead for a short period of time before a free throw from Zalan Richards and a three-pointer from Lowery gave the Warriors an 8-5 lead. The Warriors continued to push their lead with a layup from Justice McCullough and a free throw and three-pointer from Lowery to lead 17-13 halfway through the first half. The Warriors maintained their lead with shots from Javon Hunter, Kylie Blackett, and McCullough to finish the first half on top at 31-24.
The Warriors attacked first in the second half with free throws from Justice McCullough, a layup from Javon Hunter, and a jump shot from Jeremy Wert to lead 37-24 three minutes into the half. The Rams battled back to tie the game with a layup from Gabe Kirk and took a 47-42 lead before shots from McCullough and Jalen Lowery put the Warriors back on top at 48-47. Both teams fought hard to gain control of the game. The Warriors buckled down on defense and pushed their lead with shots from McCullough and Lowery and free throws from Hunter and Wert to come out on top 70-58.
Southern Wesleyan will remain at home to begin Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday, November 21 at 7:30 p.m. as they take on the Emmanuel College Lions. They will then hit the road to take on the Lees-McRae Bobcats on November 28 at 7:30 p.m.
