Sharpe Named to All-Conference Second Team

Central, S.C. – Southern Wesleyans Men's Basketball program had one player named to the Men's All-Conference Carolinas Second Team after the Warriors first season of post season eligibility.  Darius Sharpe was named to the Second Team after a stellar season for the senior guard.

Darius Sharpe, a senior from Jacksonville, Florida, was the lone Warrior to be placed on an All-Conference team this season.  An offensive anchor for the Warriors, Sharpe averaged 21.1 points per game during the 2016-2017 season.  He posted a 41.2 field goal percentage and was 37.3% at the three point line.  Sharpe was 114-142 at the free throw line to give him a total of 590 points for the Warriors in his senior season.  He has scored 20 or more points in 17 out of the 28 games the Warriors played this season, including a season-high 39 points against Pfeiffer on January 24.  The senior went on to make 109 rebounds, 44 assists and 29 steals in his final season for Southern Wesleyan.

Over his three year career at SWU, Sharpe has averaged a field goal percentage of 42.1% and a free throw percentage of 80%.  During his final away game of his Warrior career, the Florida native shot his 1000 career point.  Sharpe went on to end his season with a total of 1033 career points scored while at Southern Wesleyan.

"I am appreciative of the respect the league coaches gave Darius in selecting him for this honor," said Head Men's Basketball Coach Charles Wimphrie.  "There are hundreds of outstanding student athletes in Conference Carolinas and for Darius to be in the top 10 speaks volumes for the work he put into developing his skills. More importantly, he is an exceptional student on our campus with high academic honors. It's been an honor coaching him the last three years."

Off the court, Sharpe is on his way to graduating in May with a degree in Business Administration.  Sharpe was recently named to the Academic All-Conference Team for Conference Carolinas.  He is currently interning with Southern Wesleyan's Office of Career Services.
