Due West, SC – Southern Wesleyan was unable to pull around Erskine to avoid the sweep. The Flying Fleet won in 11-1 and 16-2 final scores.
Southern Wesleyan posted five hits in game one with Trey Matthews and Steven Perez each delivering two hits in the loss. Matthews scored the lone run for the Warriors on an RBI by Quinton Bent. John Garrett had the lone walk for the Warriors. Mike Batten started game one for Southern Wesleyan and went five innings while striking out three and allowing three hits.
Southern Wesleyan had seven hits in the game two loss. John Garrett and Quinton Bent led the team with two hits each. Christian Ketchup hit a triple for the Warriors. Garrett and Trey Matthews had the lone RBIs for the Warriors, while Garrett and Christian Ketchup scored the two runs. Three Warriors walked during the game. Josh Core started game two for the Warriors. Core pitched 3.1 innings while striking out five batters and allowing six hits.

How It Happened
Erskine jumped out early in the bottom of the second to take a 4-0 lead over Southern Wesleyan. However, Mike Batten and the Warriors held them scoreless through the fifth to keep the Flying Fleet from pushing the lead any higher.
Southern Wesleyan countered in the top of the sixth. Trey Matthews singled to the pitcher and then advanced to second then third on back-to-back wild pitches. With the runner within ninety feet of home plate, Quinton Bent singled up the middle to bring Matthews home and put the Warriors down 4-1.
However, in the bottom of the sixth homeruns by the Flying Fleet gave them an 11-1 game one victory.
Southern Wesleyan jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning. John Garrett led off the inning with a single to short step and then moved to second when Izzy Martinez walked. With runners on first and second, Trey Matthews hit a single up the middle to bring Garrett in and put the Warriors up 1-0.
Erskine push their lead to 8-1 with runs in the first, third and fourth innings. The Warriors pressured in the top of the fifth. Christian Ketchup led off the fifth with a triple to right center. A single by John Garrett brought Ketchup home.
However, the Flying Fleet kept the Warriors from scoring again as they went on to win game two in a 16-2 final.
Southern Wesleyan will return to Dr. C Keith Conner Field on February 6 as they take on the Brevard Tornadoes at 5 p.m. They will then take part in a three game series against the King Tornado on February 9 and 10.
