Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan sweeps the Piedmont International Bruins in a doubleheader on Tuesday night. The Warriors won game one 6-3 and defeated the Bruins 20-8 in game two.
Southern Wesleyan had 11 hits in the victory over Piedmont International. Three Warriors posted two hits each. Noah Fritz posted a double and Conner Ewing hit his third home run of the season during the game. The Warriors had four RBIs during the game. Izzy Martinez walked twice during the game. Tyler Rio started game one for the Warriors and pitched 2.1 innings while striking out two. Aaron Wimpey, Vinny Adams and Kyle Cook-McCrary came to pitch in relief. Adams received the win after striking out two and allowing one hit.
Southern Wesleyan posted 18 hits in the game two victory. John Garrett, Steven Perez and Quinton Bent all had doubles. Quinton Bent hit a homerun. Devin Patrick led the team with three hits. Jesse Getford led the team with four hits. Patrick and AJ Canine both had three of the 18 RBIs. Jesse Getford had three walks during the game. Southern Wesleyan posted nine strikeouts during the game with Josh Antwine and Brandon Richeson leading the Warriors with three each. Josh Antwine started the second game for the Warriors and pitched three innings while striking out three batters. Roth Mathews, Alex Tokar, Brandon Richeson and Daniel Singleton all came in to pitch in relief.

How It Happened
Piedmont International took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Warriors countered in the bottom of the first inning. John Garrett hit a singled down the left field line and then advanced to second on a single by Izzy Martine. Jesse Getford followed with a single of his to bring Garrett in to score. With runners at first and second, Conner Ewing hit into a fielder's choice that got Getford out at second. Quinton Bent hit a single to bring Martinez home and allow the Warriors to tie the game 2-2. A single by AJ Canine loaded up the bases and then a wild pitch allowed Ewing to score to give the Warriors a 3-2 advantage.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Bruins tied the game 3-3. However, the Warriors countered in the bottom of the fifth when Conner Ewing led off the inning with a home run over the left field wall. Quinton Bent singled to left field and then advanced to second on a passed ball. A single by AJ Canine allowed Bent to reach third base. A passed ball allowed Bent to come home to push the Warriors lead 5-3. Noah Fritz hit a double down the left field line to give the Warriors a 6-3 victory.
With one out in the bottom of the first inning, Izzy Martinez was hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Jesse Getford and Conner Ewing had back-to-back walks to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Quinton Bent walked to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. The fourth consecutive walk allowed AJ Canine to take first and bring Getford in to score. Devin Patrick was hit by a pitch to allow another run to cross the plate. With the bases loaded, Noah Fritz walked to bring in the fourth run of the inning. John Garrett hit a double to right center field to bring Canine and Patrick in to score and give Southern Wesleyan a 6-0.
In the top of the second inning, with the bases loaded Levi Blizzard flew out to left field. Hardin thought about advancing to home to put the Bruins on the board, but Kirkland Gillespie threw the ball back into the infield to keep Piedmont International off the board.
In the bottom of the second inning with two outs, Quinton Bent hit a home run to deep left field to put the Warriors up 7-0. AJ Canine followed with a walk and then advanced to second on a single by Devin Patrick. A passed ball put both runners in scoring position, and then a second passed ball allowed Canine to come in and put the Warriors up 8-0.
Southern Wesleyan lengthened their lead in the bottom of the third inning. With an out, Izzy Martinez was hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Jesse Getford singled to left field to bring Martinez home. With two out, Quinton Bent doubled down the left field line to put Getford at third. AJ Canine singled up the middle to bring both Getford and Bent home to put Southern Wesleyan up 11-0. With two out, Devine Patrick singled to advance Canine to third base.
Piedmont International put their first run on the board in the top of the fourth inning to make the score 11-2. The Warriors pushed their lead to 12-2 in the bottom of the fourth. With Steven Perez on first, Izzy Martinez singled through the left side. A wild pitch and passed ball allowed Perez came in to put the Warriors up 12-2. With Martinez at third and Getford at first, Julio Justo walked to load up the bases. Hunter King comes in to pinch hit and hits a single to right field to bring Martinez home. Devin Patrick followed Hunter with a single to bring Justo and Getford in to take their lead to 15-2.
In the top of the fifth inning, Piedmont International struck hard, scoring five runs on several singles to cut the Warriors lead to 15-7.
Southern Wesleyan pushed on in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kirkland Gillespie singled and advanced to second when Steven Perez reached first on an error. Izzy Martinez grounded out, but both runners were allowed to advance both runners into scoring position. Jesse Getford walked to load up the bases for the Warriors. A RBI ground out by Bowen Brock brought Gillespie home and advanced the runners. Brandon Pruitt singled to left center to bring both Getford and Perez in to give Southern Wesleyan 18-7 run advantage.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Christian Ketchup singled to left center. Steven Perez doubled to left field to bring Ketchup in to score. Izzy Martinez singled to right to bring Perez in to give the Warriors a 20-8 run advantage to win the game.
Southern Wesleyan will open up their Conference Carolinas action against the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on February 23 and 24.
