How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan struck first in the debate versus Brevard. DiMarkus Sanders led off with a walk and then came home to score when Julio Justo singled to center field. Conner Ewing followed and was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second and bring Alec Hrynda up to bat. Hrynda doubled down the left field line to bring Justo home and moved Ewing to third base. A ground out by Justin Brew, brought Ewing home and gave the Warriors a 3-0 lead after one inning of play.
Brevard countered in the top of the second to score a run and cut the Warrior lead down to 3-1. The Warriors lengthened their lead in the bottom of the second inning. Christian Ketchup walked and then stole second before advancing to third base on a passed ball. DiMarkus Sanders reached first on a walk. With runners at the corners, the Brevard pitcher balked to bring Ketchup home and advance Sanders to second base. Julio Justo followed the balk with a double down the left field line to bring Sanders home and give the Warriors a 5-1 lead.
The Tornados countered in the top of the third inning to cut the Warriors lead to 5-3. In the bottom of the third inning, Southern Wesleyan struck again. Alec Hrynda led off the inning with a walk and then stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Avery Mahon followed with a walk and put runners at the corners for Andrew Falgiano. Falgiano singled to shortstop to move Mahon to second and bring Hrynda home to give Southern Wesleyan a 6-1 lead over Brevard. With runners at first and second, Christian Ketchup singled up the middle to bring Mahon home and give the Warriors a 7-3 lead over the Tornados.
