Strong Offense Leads to Warrior Victory

Central, S.C. – The Southern Wesleyan Warriors defeated the Toccoa Falls College Screaming Eagles in non-conference play on April 11 in an 8-3 final score.

The Warriors posted 11 hits in the victory with four Warriors posting two hits apiece.  DiMarkus Sanders, Julio Justo, Alec Hrynda and Drew Carson all posted doubles during the game, and Hrynda led the team with four RBIs.  Sanders and Justo went on to lead the team in runs with two apiece.  Izzy Martinez and Andrew Falgiano both post two stolen bases with Conner Ewing following them with a solo stolen base.

Jordan Finster started the non-conference game for the Warriors.  In his first complete game of the season, Finster struck 10 batters while allowing six hits and walking three batters.  The senior pitcher faced 36 batters while throwing 126 pitches and 94 strikes.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan struck first in the bottom of the first inning of play against the Screaming Eagles.  Julio Justo walked and then advanced to second on a single by Conner Ewing.  With two runners on, Alec Hrynda hit a double to left field, but was out stretching to third base.  However, both Ewing and Justo came in to score to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead before Hrynda was called out.

The Screaming Eagles countered in the top of the third to tie the game 2-2.  Southern Wesleyan rallied back to regain the lead in the bottom of the second inning.  Jason Moldenhauer reached first on an error and then advanced to second base on a passed ball.  With Moldenhauer on second base, Drew Carson doubled down the left field line to give the Warriors a 3-2 lead.  Andrew Falgiano followed with a single to left field to bring Carson home to give Southern Wesleyan a 4-2 lead going into the third inning of play.

DiMarkus Sanders led off for the Warriors in the bottom of the fifth inning with a single through the right side.  Sanders advanced to second base when Julio Justo walked, and then both runners advanced a base on a passed ball.  With both runners in scoring position, Conner Ewing was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Alec Hrynda.  Hrynda hit a single up the middle to bring Justo and Sanders home to give the Warriors a 6-2 lead over the Screaming Eagles.

In the top of the eighth inning, Toccoa Falls shortened the Warriors lead to 6-3 on a passed ball that brought Lusk home.  However, in the bottom of the eighth inning, Southern Wesleyan lengthened their lead.  John Garrett singled and then advanced to second on a balk by the Screaming Eagles' pitcher.  DiMarkus Sanders followed with a double down the left field line to bring Garrett home.  Sanders advanced to third on an error and then came in to score on a second balk by the opposing pitcher.  The Warriors won the game against Toccoa Falls in an 8-3 final score.

 

What's Next

The Warriors will return to the Con on April 12 to take on the Brevard College Tornados in non-Conference play at 6 pm.  They will then travel to Barton College to take on the Bulldogs on April 14 and 15.  Southern Wesleyan will take on the Bulldogs at 12 and 3 pm on April 14 before finishing the series on April 15 at noon.
