Dr. Redmond joined Blue Ridge Orthopedics in 2002 and the sports medicine staff at SWU in 2016. He is graduated summa cum laude from Ripon College, where he also played four years of NCAA III varsity football and served as team captain. He graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin Medical School (MD, 1992), and completed his orthopedic surgical residency training at the University of Michigan (1997), where he worked with all the University of Michigan sports teams. Dr. Redmond completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Minneapolis Sports Medicine Center (1998), where he worked with the University of Minnesota, Hamelin University, and was a member of the medical staff for the Minnesota Vikings, Timberwolves, and Twins. He also worked with the Minnesota Wild, USA hockey, and provided medical coverage for the US Figure Skating Workd Championships, the Division III Track and Field National Championships, and the 1998 NFL Combine in Indianapolis. Prior to joining Blue Ridge Orthopedics, Dr. Redmond practiced in Battle Creek, Michigan, where he served as the team orthopedic surgeon for Albion College and the Michigan Battle Cats, a Houston Astros minor league team (1998-2002).
As a member of the Blue Ridge Orthopedics sports medicine staff, Dr. Redmond provides care for several area high school and college athletic teams, as well as general orthopedic and trauma care to active persons of all ages. In addition to serving as team orthopedic surgeon to SWU, Dr. Redmond also serves as team physician for Pickens High School (2002-present). He also assists in the care of Clemson University athletes.
Dr. Redmond is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and a member of the South Carolina Medical Association. He is certified in Orthopedic Sports Medicine and specializes in complex knee and shoulder injuries. He is certified in Advanced Cartilage Restoration Techniques, and is one of the only specialists certified in hip arthroscopy in the region. Dr. Redmond also serves as an assistant professor at the Univ. of South Carolina School of Medicine, and provides medical resident instruction in sports medicine to the Greenville Health System Orthopedic residency program.
