Warriors finished last year ranked 22nd
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Southern Wesleyan men’s soccer is ranked No. 21 in the NAIA preseason coaches poll as announced by the association on Tuesday.
The Warriors finished last season ranked No. 22 and just missed out on a berth to the NAIA National Tournament. Behind head coach Camilo Rodriguez, SWU compiled a 15-3-2 overall record, falling in the NCCAA South Region title game in penalty kicks.
Five teams from the Southern States Athletic Conference were ranked in the Top-25 poll with defending champion Belhaven slotted at number one with all 19 first-place votes. University of Mobile was ranked second and Auburn-Montgomery was picked fifth to round out three SSAC schools in the top-five. Southern Poly State, also from the SSAC was ranked eighth.
The Warriors finished tied for second with Auburn-Montgomery in the SSAC last year with an 8-2-1 mark. SWU was ranked as high as No. 13 last year.
SWU will kick-off their regular season on the road at St. Andrews College in Laurinburg, N.C. on August 28 at 5 p.m.
