Baseball Wins in Comeback Fashion in 11 InningsMarch 13, 2013
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Southern Wesleyan University (10-13) defeated non-conference opponent North Greenville University for the second consecutive day, this time coming back from a 5-2 deficit to win 10-9 in 11 innings, on Wednesday evening at Fluor Field.
SWU scored 2 runs in the 7th and 8th innings, before scoring 5 runs in the 9th inning to force extra innings. Clint Clymer hit the game-tying RBI and SWU almost got away with win in the 9th inning, but Matt Arant was thrown out at the plate on the Clymer hit to keep the score at 9 apiece.
After a scoreless 10th inning, SWU's Michael Hyman struck out, but advanced to first base on the wild pitch. Andrew Howard and Thomas Floyd reached base on walks to load the bases with no outs in the bottom portion of the 11th inning. Stephen Wyatt then drove a 1-0 pitch to deep right field for the game-winning single and RBI for the Warriors.
Wyatt led SWU in the ballgame going 3-for-6 with 2 RBI's and 1 run scored, while Floyd and Hyman had 2 hits apiece. Hyman added an RBI, with Howard adding a hit, 2 runs scored, and 1 RBI. Julio Lara had 2 RBI's for the Warriors.
SWU will travel to Reinhardt College on Friday, March 15th for a single game starting at 4:00 PM in non-conference action.
