Coach Rodriguez is excited to announce the signing of three new players to the 2010-2011 roster. Giovanni Ossa from Phoenix, AZ joins his teammate Justin Doyle and signs with the Warriors for next season. The 19 year old sophomore transfers from Glendale Community College in Arizona where he played the last two seasons. Giovanni, a native from Medellin, Colombia moved to the US several years ago and is now pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice. The three year varsity letterman can play both offensive and defensive roles which makes him a very interesting option for Coach Rodriguez. "After attending a brief recruit trip at SWU, I immediately knew that it was the place for me," stated Ossa. "The team seems to be on a level of hard work and dedication that was unmatched by any other team I've ever played with before. I intend to train hard over the summer to help make a positive impact next season". Rodriguez stated, “Gio is the kind of player that could play anywhere in the field, I am really excited that he is joining us, and I know that he will be able to push the rest of the team to a higher level." Emmanuel Forbes, a native from Colon, Panama comes from Gordon College in Ga., where he scored 20 goals during the last two seasons. He was named second team all region and conference for the last two seasons at Gordon College. Forbes numbers begin before college, with only two seasons played in high school in the US, Forbes recorded an impressive 44 goals and 11 assists for Henry County High. His impressive statistics got him a two-time offensive player of the year and two-time All Region first team in high school. Forbes joins the Warriors to finish his college career where he is expected to continue his remarkable offensive performance on the pitch.
“I am extremely pleased with him committing to play with us next season," said Coach Rodriguez. “He is the kind of player that we were missing offensively last year and I can’t wait to see the impact he is going to make not only in our team but in the conference as well”. The last addition for the SWU Warriors comes from Bogota, Colombia. Andres Molano signed for the Warriors last week. Molano played last year with the younger divisions of the Kansas Wizards (MLS), where he won the state cup in the U-19 category. Previously he played for Fair Play Club in Bogota, Colombia one of the capitals most competitive teams.
Rodriguez is very excited about this recruiting class and after signing Andres he thinks they are ready for next season. “Andres is a very talented kid who will be able to create an impact from the minute he gets here," added Rodriguez. "It is not easy to find a freshman that will be able to step in as a starter and I think Andres could do that if he plays up to his potential. I could not be more blessed and excited with the new guys; with the returning players and with this new group we should be a stronger team. The coaching staff is extremely excited and we are looking forward to a great 2010 season!"
