Lagroone Picks up Clean Sweep in Player of the Week Honors

Junior named SSAC, NCCAA & NAIA player of the week

Nick Lagroone, named SSAC player of the week this past Monday, has now been named national player of the week in both the NCCAA and the NAIA.

Lagroone's clutch performance in two games last week included breaking the 29 year old single game scoring mark held by current head coach Charles Wimphrie.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nick Lagroone of Southern Wesleyan University (S.C.) was named the final NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Lagroone was honored based on his performances from Feb. 22-March 2. He was chosen out of a pool of player of the week selections among 12 conferences and independents.

The 6-4, junior guard from Ninety Six, S.C., set a school record in helping the Warriors to two wins in the Southern States Athletic Conference.

On Feb. 25, he went 16-for-21 (.762) from the floor, including 8-for-12 (.667) from the 3-point line, in totaling 48 points. That output broke the Southern Wesleyan scoring record, which was held by current head coach Charles Wimphrie in 1981. Lagroone added eight rebounds and eight assists to narrowly miss a triple-double in the 105-76 victory over Shorter (Ga.).

Against Berry (Ga.) on Feb. 27, he notched 23 points, nine rebounds and five assists in the 100-87 win.

For the week, Lagroone averaged 35.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3.0 steals. He shot 22-for-31 (.710) from the floor, 10-of-15 (.667) from 3-point land and 17-of-20 (.850) from the foul line.

Lagroone ranks 10th nationally in scoring (20.4 ppg) and 30th in steals (2.0 spg).
