Baseball Drops DH to Bluefield College

Southern Wesleyan, trailing 10-4 entering the bottom of the 6th inning, rallied for three runs in the 6th and three more in the bottom of the 7th before dropping the nightcap 12-10.

Bluefield held off an earlier SWU rally in game one as the Warriors had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the 7th before the Rams bullpen forced to flyouts to shallow leftfield.

Senior Matt Cape started on the mound for SWU and allowed six runs in 3 2/3 innings.  Only three of the runs were earned as Cape gave up eight hits while striking out one and walking two hitters.  Freshman Rae Brazeale entered in the 4th inning with two outs and gave up two hits before getting a groundout to end the inning.  Brazeale pitched three innings allowing no runs off four hits.  Bradley Love pitched the final out of the top of the 7th, entering with bases loaded and getting a popup in foul territory that was caught by Chad Drosieko.

Southern Wesleyan scored two runs in the 2nd inning as Aaron Plummer walked and Josh Hutto singled before scored by a Brauncy Jenkins two run single.  The Warriors would add their final run in the 5th as Jenkins was hit by a pitch, stole second and then scored on an error off the bat of Stephen Wyatt.

The nightcap would show SWU scoring early and late, but Bluefield took advantage of five errors and scored throughout the game to build a six run lead entering the 6th inning.  Brauncy Jenkins reached base four time with a single and three walks, scoring three runs in the loss.  Freshman Brandon Burton added three singles and three rbi in the loss.

Matthew Large started on the mound and pitched three innings allowing six earned runs off three hits, two walks and two hit batsmen.  Freshman Chase McElrath pitched two innings allowing one earned run off three hits.  Freshman Nathan Williamson pitched one inning allowing one earned run off one hit and Wesley Allen closed out the 7th allowing two unearned runs off one hit.

Southern Wesleyan will host Anderson University on Tuesday, February 9 at 3 p.m.
